Thomas Ellis
Director
Thomas brings a hands-on, real-world approach to business advising rooted in his background in military service, manufacturing, project management, supply chain, and international business. He has owned and operated multiple businesses, worked in education, and has been part of the McLennan SBDC team for over two years. His areas of focus include startup development, MVP analysis, operations, and creative problem-solving for complex business challenges. Thomas is passionate about helping entrepreneurs make informed decisions, build sustainable businesses, and strengthen the communities they serve, with a special emphasis on veteran-owned and community-based businesses.
Mark Joseph
Business Advisor
Mark brings decades of financial and operational expertise to the SBDC, with 34 years in banking and financial services, along with experience in consulting, retail sales, and warehousing. He specializes in financial analysis, balance sheet management, business planning, and capital and debt strategy. Mark works closely with business owners on purchases, sales, lease reviews, and long-term planning. He is motivated by the role small businesses play in strengthening communities and takes pride in helping entrepreneurs build both successful companies and a stronger local economy.
Tim Holtkamp
Business Advisor
Tim brings deep expertise in finance, capital acquisition, and business management to the SBDC, helping entrepreneurs turn ideas into sustainable, bankable operations. With 13 years of experience at the SBDC, he has provided hands-on advising and strategic guidance to small businesses across a wide range of industries. Tim also brings real-world insight from owning and operating construction, daycare, real estate, and nonprofit organizations, giving him a practical understanding of the financial, regulatory, and operational challenges business owners face. He is motivated by helping clients achieve their goals through customized, results-driven solutions and community-focused economic development.
Jason Ehler
Business Advisor
Jason brings more than 20 years of experience in consumer-focused industries, including over 14 years in management and performance leadership roles. He has served as a Business Advisor with the SBDC since 2013 and specializes in strategic planning, lending guidance, client development, and business operations. With professional experience across the medical, technology, and financial sectors, Jason helps entrepreneurs turn ideas into viable, sustainable businesses. He is especially passionate about supporting local communities through thoughtful planning, organizational development, and long-term growth strategies.
Tona Curry
Administrative Assistant
Tona has been a vital part of the McLennan SBDC team for five years, supporting advisors and clients through strong administrative, bookkeeping, and customer service operations. She brings a diverse background that includes paralegal work, managerial roles, and extensive experience in billing, accounts payable, and records management. Known for her attention to detail, reliability, and service-oriented approach, Tona enjoys helping Waco businesses succeed and values being part of a team that supports local growth. She takes pride in keeping the SBDC running smoothly so entrepreneurs can focus on building their businesses.
